Galatasaray Blows It

Here we go again. On Saturday FB lost to Ankaragucu and today, when we have the chance to close the gap to 1 point what happens??? A 0-0 draw with Sivasspor is what happens. What is wrong with this team, do they not want to win the league, where is the heart and the passion. Okay I understand the problems with the payments but really this is the second chance already to close the gap to the cheats and again its been blown. Gerets and the board needs to get things sorted or this season will once again end in dissapointment.

Anyway its been a long week and I am tired so enough for now, I cant concentrate after that performance...

A slight mistake in your report. Fenerbahce lost to Ankaraspor, not Ankaragucu. I've been enjoying your blog from here in Ankara, even if I don't like Galatasaray :)
Check out our blog on Ankara football if you like.

Gulay, your blog is being promoted to our Yahoo group members, but I don't think you're a member, are you? Here's a response from one of our members which I thought you would want to read. He and I are both Fenerli, we actually play indoor soccer together Monday nights. Join our group! You'll find a red/blue badge on my site which reads AMERIKAN TURK. Check us out. Become our 50th member and out Cagri in his place!. Here's his reply to you:

Yes, I fully agree that there's no level playing field in Turkish Football. In fact there hasn't been any for a long time... I totally support Gulay's opinion regarding foreign referees. I wish it started at least fifteen years ago though.. If it did, Fenerbahce would have received 4 stars by now...

It's always entertaining to see GS fans complain about referees. Especially after the 1996-2000 period when we saw 100 min. matches, diving players all the time (talk about "absolutely blatant cheatings" :-)) ), "legendary" players who tried some greco style wrestling moves with the referee (and got away with it without even a yellow card) on one side, and broken legs not even penalized by a foul, 100% penalties not given etc on the other... I will never forget Elvir Bolic, a Fenerbahce player then, saying once : "Abi penalti olmasi icin olmemiz mi lazIm?" (Do we have to die for the referee to give a penalty?)... Even this season, referee misjudgements in favor of Fenerbahce do not exceed those against. 100 % penalties not given (even against BJK 5 days ago, when Nobre was wrestled to the ground), 100% free-kicks not given around the penalty area etc. Oh by the way, just before that alleged penalty between Gokhan and Rustu, Anelka was clearly fouled by Koray, which was skipped by the referee... Anyway, the only difference is Fenerbahce was most of the time strong enough to overcome the referee mistakes and did not lose points in those matches. And probably the proportion of referee mistakes in favor of and against GS is the same this year. I wish our friend Gulay also talked about Hasan Sas who brutally kicked a player's ankle with his sole just two weeks ago and did not even get a yellow card for which he would have been dismissed by "Graham Poll or Markus Merk" right at the spot. The same is true for Umit Karan who injured the goalkeeper in the same game...

So I would strongly recommend to get the facts straight before making baseless accusations...

Sevgiler,

Cagri
